‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13: Caterina Scorsone on Amelia’s future
This past episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” offered up an opportunity for Owen and Amelia to look towards their potential future as parents — at least briefly. After all, she had believed herself to be pregnant, and spent most of the hour trying to figure out the right way in order to tell him. She eventually did, but unfortunately in the process it came to light that she actually wasn’t expecting at all. Her intuition was wrong, and in the aftermath of that, she will become somewhat distant and not so interested in trying for children immediately. Suffice it to say, it’s a shift from how she was feeling before then.
In speaking a little bit further about this change, Caterina Scorsone offered up the following tease to TVLine:
“She really dove into this new identity, where she was no longer the black sheep but suddenly the chief of neuro and adored by a responsible guy like Owen. And she was very earnestly excited about being a wife and mother, and being a part of society in the way she perceived to be positive.
“Then, the pregnancy test triggered the bridge between those compartmentalized pieces of her life, and all the trauma that she experienced came flooding into Seattle in a way that she [hadn’t anticipated]. She’s suddenly being hit with the reality that she can’t really run away from the past.”
Basically, we should all prepare more for some heavier material for Amelia coming up. She’s a woman who is trying to find a better place for herself in life, but it’s inevitable that certain things are going to come up that trigger memories. For example, the pregnancy test results bring back some pain from many years ago for her, and she may suddenly feeling a sort of fear now that she may not be ale to offer something to Owen that he wants.
