‘This Is Us’ episode 6 preview: Randall, Kevin, and Kate look ahead

There is something interesting about the dichotomy that is coming on tonight’s new episode of “This Is Us” airing on NBC. In the past, you are getting a chance to see more of how Rebecca and Kate decided that they wanted to settle down and start a family. Meanwhile, the present is offering up some opportunities for us for us to learn about precisely where Jack is and what happened with him. Sadly, it’s not good news.

In moving beyond this episode, next week’s “Career Days” is once again going to take a different focus, and will look more towards the future than at times towards the past. Take for example Kevin and Randall, who each will be facing some key decisions in the present that could alter the course of their careers — and in one case, also their love life.

Synopsis – “Kate interviews for a new job that seems just about perfect, although it comes with a catch. Randall doubts his career choice and wonders if he followed the right path. Kevin and Olivia’s relationship moves in a new direction. Rebecca and Jack are conflicted on what to do when Randall tests as a gifted child.”

The story about Randall getting tested makes us think that we’re going to focusing on a period in which the children are fairly young, and their parents are still doing their part in order to figure out precisely what the best way is in order to educate them. Sometimes, this is not altogether easy to determine. Ultimately, we figure we will be satisfied with this story so long as it captures everything that we appreciate and love about the series to date: Emotional, powerful storytelling that takes its time allowing us to get to know some of its key players.

Promo – This is a nice reflection of everything we’ve discussed above, but knowing the truth regarding Jack does add some additional weight to every moment with him.
