‘The Voice’ renewed by NBC through season 13; Gwen Stefani, Miley Cyrus alternating seasons

VoiceGreat news coming out for those who continue to enjoy “The Voice“: There are at least two more seasons coming up beyond this current one.

Today, NBC confirmed the oh-so-great news that the popular singing competition will be back for a pair of new seasons set to air in the spring and the fall of 2017. Most notably, they’ve also went ahead and given you the panel of coaches, as well! Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton are going to be around for the spring season once more, but with Gwen Stefani rather than Miley Cyrus. The “Wrecking Ball” singer will return to the show in the fall to resume her duties. As for where in the world Christina Aguilera is in all of this, that remains to be seen.

In a statement, NBC alternative programming head Paul Telegdy ballyhooed the success of the show so far, while showing some excitement for the future:

“We can’t wait to experience the unique chemistry and energy Gwen, Alicia, Blake and Adam will bring to Season 12 … With Miley returning for Season 13, we’re truly ecstatic about the unmatched musical know-how and talent coming together in our coming seasons.”

There are a couple of elements of great news that come from this, at least for “Voice” fans. People who like Gwen are going to see her get another shot at the title, which is nice since she hasn’t come too close to winning to date. Meanwhile, there’s plenty to be happy about in getting two women on the panel for consecutive seasons after waiting ten seasons to have it happen once.

The show’s ratings aren’t what they once were, but let’s be honest here: It’s far and away a more successful series than we ever envisioned it would be back when we first thought it was yet another feeble attempt to unseat “American Idol” from the singing-show throne.
