Is ‘Victoria’ new tonight on ITV? Also, why there’s no Christmas Special

We imagine that on Sunday nights as of late, ITV viewers likely have grown accustomed to there being some new episodes of “Victoria” coming on the air. We understand why this would become a routine: Watching television in so many ways is a routine, and that is why such an abundance of people enjoy it. There is something delightful about having a great series to watch every night, especially one that illuminates on the life of one of the most famous rulers in any monarchy around the globe.

Unfortunately, the series is not going to be airing a new episode tonight; as a matter of fact, you may be waiting for some time still to see what lies ahead. The first season is officially over, and there is not another one on schedule until more than likely late next year.

What may surprise some is that at one point, there was at least discussion regarding giving viewers potentially a Christmas Special later this year. Whether it be with “Call the Midwife” or with “Doctor Who,” this is a holiday tradition for many British series. We had assumed that this idea was turned down for creative reasons, but it turns out this is not the case. Instead, creator / writer Daisy Goodwin revealed (per the Huffington Post UK recently) that it was actually ITV themselves that opted against putting this special on the air:

“We did offer them one for this year but they went, ‘Umm…’ I don’t think they knew how big the show was going to become. I wish we had one this year. I bet they are wishing they had one now but we will have one for next year.”

Jenna Coleman and company will be back to film more episodes hopefully in the near future, and after this show defeated even “Poldark” throughout the fall, there’ll more than likely be Christmas Specials the rest of its run on the air — or at least for however long Goodwin wants to put them together.
