‘Westworld’ episode 3 preview: ‘The Stray’ and the road ahead
Before we present this preview of “Westworld,” a warning. HBO chose to release episode 2 early due to the Presidential Debate happening last week, and with that in mind, we’re posting a preview slightly early for what is coming up on next week’s “The Spray.” We’re going to try and keep major spoilers at a minimum here, but keep this in mind as you continue to press forward into the article.
In episode 2, we saw something rare in Westworld: Empathy, and that not everyone has the same intention in mind for the AIs that is usually present within this world. Also, we saw further story towards the malfunctions that are going on within the hosts.
Synopsis – “Elsie (Shannon Woodward) and Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) head into the hills in pursuit of a missing host. Teddy (James Marsden) gets a new backstory, which sets him off in pursuit of a new villain, leaving Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) alone in Sweetwater. Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) investigates the origins of madness and hallucinations within the hosts. William (Jimmi Simpson) finds an attraction he’d like to pursue and drags Logan (Ben Barnes) along for the ride.”
Quite note: This episode is directed by Neil Marshall, a man responsible for “Blackwater,” one of the greatest “Game of Thrones” episodes there is.
While it may be a tad too early to proclaim this to be a turning-point episode, we do think that for Bernard and Teddy in particular, this could be an installment full of great learning and character exploration. Given how much there is to accomplish this season, we imagine that we are going to see things move along at a fairly rapid pace. One thing we are very interested in watching is the relationship between Dolores and William. Dolores is a kind-hearted AI that sees nothing but the beauty of Westworld despite the horrible things that happen to her on a daily basis and William is the first newcomer we have seen that isn’t there with violent intentions. Can there be love in a world this cruel?
