‘The Leftovers’ season 3: When could we get first trailer?

Throughout most of this year, we’ve kept our stance the same on “The Leftovers” season 2: It was the best product handed down on all TV in 2016. It was gripping, intense, well-acted, and above all poignant and heartfelt. There are very few shows out there that make us as emotionally invested as we were in the story of Kevin Garvey, Nora Durst, John Murphy, and many other characters. HBO has a gem on their hands, and the only bad news is that the upcoming third season is its last.

For those wondering the latest progress report, we’re now officially in waiting-game mode for HBO to announce a premiere date, and hopefully a trailer not long after that. Filming for the series wrapped last month in Australia, so at least that part of production is officially set in stone. The only thing that we can say with certainty about this season is that the setting is shifting once more for the story (hence the new filming location), and we could see more of a few recurring characters than we did in season 2.

If we were to put on our thinking cap and speculate on a trailer release, our hope would be to see one by the end of “Westworld” this season. Given that HBO could have some spots open in the winter / spring with “Game of Thrones” delayed and “Vinyl” canceled, it makes sense to fill one of those spots with “The Leftovers” before the George R.R. Martin adaptation comes back in the summer. In releasing a trailer this year, you’ve got a chance to not only build up momentum, but capitalize on the success on another show.

After all, as good as “The Leftovers” is, it still deserves much more in the way of ratings than what it tends to receive.

Once there is further news to reveal, rest assured: We’ll have it for you here.
