‘NCIS’ showrunner Gary Glasberg dead at 50
Stunning news coming out this afternoon for the entire “NCIS” community.
Sources confirm per Variety that Gary Glasberg, an executive producer for the flagship series for the past several years and also an executive producer on “NCIS: New Orleans,” has died at the age of 50. The cause of death has not been determined at present. Glasberg has been with the series since 2009, and was promoted to an executive producer the following year. He has a robust resume that includes “Bones” and “Crossing Jordan,” and he certainly put his heart and soul the past several years into helping “NCIS” maintain its status as one of the longest-running and most-popular scripted dramas in the entire world.
The cast released the following statement regarding his death:
“Gary was our rock, our cheerleader, our team captain. He inspired us with his leadership, his creative instincts and keen insight. NCIS will not be the same without him, and each of us will miss his smiling face and unwavering humor, which lifted us every day.”
Meanwhile, CBS programming head Glenn Geller added the following:
“Today is an overwhelmingly sad day for NCIS, CBS and anyone who was blessed to spend time with Gary Glasberg. We have lost a cherished friend, gifted creative voice, respected leader and, most memorably, someone whose warmth and kindness was felt by all around him.”
There’s not too much more to say here, but our dearest thoughts and condolences go out to Gary’s family (including his wife and two children), friends, and colleagues during what has to be a very difficult time. There will obviously be a time to discuss further what this means for “NCIS” as a series, but that time should be dictated by those who work on the program. He was a talented writer and producer, and will be sorely missed.
