NBC’s ‘The Voice’ video: Aaron Gibson auditions to ‘Losing My Religion’

We’ve got a sneak peek today of Monday night’s new episode of “The Voice,” and there could be a talent in Aaron Gibson that sends some of the coaches into a tizzy.

The first thing that we’ll say about Aaron’s performance of “Losing My Religion” is that we love the song choice. It’s emotional and powerful, and it shows that you don’t need to go out there and try to hit every big note under the sun to get the attention of the coaches. It also makes us think that Aaron can use this sort of vulnerability on a wide array of other songs, as well.

Overall, Gibson received chair-turns from Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus, and Alicia Keys — this preview is not long enough so that it includes some of the campaigning for him, which is a little bit of a shame given that we don’t quite know on the surface which way he would go. If Aaron does like to do classic rock, Blake does have a reasonably good understanding of that having worked with similar artists over time. However, Miley also does have a pretty rich musical history, and with Alicia, you’ve got a masterful musician who could really try to emphasize this particular part of his performance ability.

Ultimately, here’s to hoping for some interesting debates! We’re definitely looking forward to Aaron’s episode airing at some point over the coming days and seeing precisely what these coaches are willing to do in order to get him on board.
