Donald Glover’s ‘Atlanta,’ ‘Better Things’ renewed by FX for second seasons
There are definitely some better things in order at FX moving forward. Today, FX confirmed that both “Better Things” and “Atlanta” have been renewed for second seasons after a combination of creative and commercial success.
The great news was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, as they had the following to say:
“It’s really gratifying to launch two new comedies that have received overwhelming critical acclaim right out of the gate and that are emblematic of FX’s award-winning brand. It is clear to us that Atlanta and Better Things have struck a nerve with viewers, which is a credit to Donald Glover’s vision for Atlanta and Pamela Adlon’s vision for Better Things. They, along with their spectacular casts, writers and directors, have created exceptional shows that we are incredibly proud to produce.”
This news comes after FX won a whole chorus of awards while at the Primetime Emmy Awards, in particular for “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.” These two shows are probably the strongest comedies that the network has had in terms of critical acclaim since the start of “Louie,” and the only reasons that they weren’t included for the Emmys is most likely because of when they first came on the air. (Louis CK does actually have involvement in “Better Things,” which makes some sense given that Adlon is a good friend and previously appeared on his show.)
New episodes of these shows will likely air over the next year, and their seasons will run for ten episodes each.
