Super Bowl LI: Lady Gaga still not confirmed for Halftime Show, despite reports otherwise
Would it be nice to know for sure that the Super Bowl Halftime Show at some point soon? Absolutely, but that doesn’t make rumors necessarily true.
Earlier this weekend, some new reports came out from Us Weekly suggesting that Lady Gaga has officially locked-in her gig as the host of the upcoming show airing in the new year. While that would be wonderful news if it was confirmed, here’s the bad news, it’s not. Specifically, a rep for the league told Entertainment Weekly the following:
“Nothing has changed from what we said earlier in the week.”
Ultimately, we do personally hope that we get a chance to see Gaga performing during the big game at some point in the future. Why is that? Because she’ll probably create the show and make it into some sort of giant spectacle. It will be big, visually spectacular, and worthy of some discussion. We understand that she can be polarizing as an artist, but at the same time you can say the same thing about the vast majority of people who perform at the Super Bowl. Not everyone is going to like them.
Also, Gaga makes some sense given that she has a new single out on the radio out right now in “Perfect Illusion,” and there is a new album coming a little bit later this fall. She is also reportedly set for this current season of “American Horror Story,” but there is no word at present as to what her role is going to be.
