Crime Dynamic Duos: ‘Law & Order: SVU’ (Benson / Rollins) vs. ‘Longmire’ (Walt / Vic)
For the sake of this particular edition, we’re focusing on two shows in “Law & Order: SVU” and “Longmire” that have a mixture of all sorts of relationships and dynamics, and two particular pairs who are certainly worthy of a spotlight.
“Law & Order: SVU” (Benson / Rollins, 3 seed) – While Amanda has not been a part of the series since the beginning, she’s come a long way since arriving and having Olivia as a colleague / mentor. Even when they don’t share the screen together, you can feel some of the influence and mutual respect that exists there. Sometimes it can be a little tricky using the word “hero” for any fictional TV character or even person, given that we’re all flawed and make some mistakes; yet, it’s very easy to say that these two women have been behind some incredibly brave and heroic actions over the past few years, and their partnership is one of the reasons why many rapists and abusers are taken off of the street.
“Longmire” (Walt / Vic, 6 seed) – What’s really fun about this showdown is that other than the genre, these shows are really so different. One’s in a big setting, while the other is in fairly rural Wyoming and around a Native American reservation. Walt and Vic’s authority covers a wide range of crimes, and they’re certainly heroic in their own way (even if they don’t always follow the letter of the law to get justice). Seeing them work together on cases is engaging and incredibly dynamic, though we know that there are plenty of folks out there who wish that they would become more than just colleagues at some point in the future.
