‘Saturday Night Live’ adds Mikey Day to season 42 cast

SNL -Here’s a “Saturday Night Live” casting update we can certainly celebrate: Writer Mikey Day is set to join the cast!

It’s not often that the NBC sketch show hires performers we are well aware of before they join, but Day is someone who has been on our radar for quite some time thanks to “Wild ‘N Out” with Nick Cannon, another current NBC personality. He also played a part in “Maya & Marty” over the summer, and is one of many notable names to come out of the Groundlings (including many other former cast members).

It felt fairly clear that “SNL” was going to need to hire at least one new male cast member, if not more, to replace the three departing players in Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, and Jon Rudnitsky. While many cast members are plucked from relative obscurity, we’re glad that they went with a familiar name in comedy circles here to help shore up the roster for season 42. Day should be able to come in and contribute almost immediately, and since he’s already been on their writing staff, they know a thing or two about what they are going to get from him already.

Plus, the show certainly found a gem in Leslie Jones from their writing staff previously, so they know they’ve got some serious talent behind the camera to go along with the people in front of it.

For now, what do you think about Day’s casting? Share below, and head over here to see some more of the latest “SNL” scoop! We’re getting word of another addition to the cast, and we’ll have an update at that link before too long…
