‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10 spoilers: Show boss on Katey Sagal as Penny’s mother

There are a fairly wide array of reasons to be excited for the upcoming tenth season of “The Big Bang Theory,” but one of the biggest ones can be found right in the premiere as Katey Sagal is going to be making a guest appearance! The former “Married … With Children” and “Sons of Anarchy” star will be playing the part of Penny’s mother, which is ironic given that she previously played the part for Kaley Cuoco on “8 Simple Rules” many years back.

It’s interesting that we have not seen Penny’s mom on the show before now, but based on what executive producer Steve Molaro had to say about her to TVLine, it could be worth the wait:

“She’s quite neurotic … This is her first time meeting Leonard’s parents and friends and she wants to make a really good first impression. How she and her family come off to these people is extremely important to her.”

The only thing that we’re bummed about when it comes to Penny’s mother coming into the new season is that we’re only going to see a small percentage of her on the show. Sagal is confirmed to only be appearing in the first episode for now, and given that we’ve got Jack McBrayer, Judd Hirsch, and a variety of other guest characters appearing over the course of this half-hour, there is probably not going to be a lot of time to devote to any of them. It’s with that in mind we hope that there will be opportunities to pick the story back up down the road, and give everyone an opportunity to do a little bit more work on their own.
