‘Empire’ season 3 spoilers: Jussie Smollett previews news Jamal romance

Given everything that happened at the end of season 2, it really should not come as much of a surprise that the start of “Empire” season 3 is going to feature some characters merely doing what they can to recover. Take, for example, Jamal, who is still dealing with the aftermath of a near-death experience as he jumped in front of a bullet meant for his father. He wants to stop the violence surrounding the Lyon clan, but we think that this is much more of an “easier said than done” sort of thing since we’re not quite sure anyone else in his family really wants to end whatever cycle they are going through.

The good news for Jamal is that he may have a chance to have somewhat of a stabilizing presence in his life moving forward courtesy of a prospective new love interest, someone who will peak to him and try to understand him. Who is that? Think along the lines of Phillip (Juan Antonio), a counselor who is trying to help him through his issues.

In previewing what lies ahead to Entertainment Weekly, Jussie Smollett makes it clear why there is something about this character on a level of appeal that is different from anyone else that he has come into contact with over time:

“It’s someone that for the first time gives no f—s about Jamal’s fame … He just genuinely is not affected by the money, and it’s a very, very honest relationship.”
