‘Empire’ season 3, episode 1 video: First look at Taye Diggs

As someone who would watch Taye Diggs in just about anything, we’re rather thrilled that we’ll specifically get a chance to see him throughout at least the early going of “Empire” season 3, and in a role that could have larger implications than just the Lyon family. His role is Angelo Dubois, a prominent politician constantly working to get further and further up on the food chain. He sees, opportunities, and he jumps on them.

In the sneak peek below (via Entertainment Weekly) for the premiere, you do get a quick taste of Angelo and his dual ambitions. On one level, we do see in him a man who wants to do everything that he can to make the city better. Yet, at the same time, he also wants to get ahead, and he’s well aware of what working with Jamal Lyon could do for him in that respect. The fact that he brings up Snapchat just shows how social-media savvy he truly is. (Heck, he’s more savvy than us in that regard.)

There is one problem that seems to be getting in the way right now of a potential Angelo – Jamal collaboration, and that’s not none other than Cookie. Specifically, she doesn’t have a whole lot of interest in working with a politician, and she tries to push Jamal to concentrate mostly on the studio. He relents, but we’ll see what happens when the show premieres. We know you’re not casting Diggs unless you’ve got a particularly meaty role in mind for him.
