Bill Nye, Netflix team up for new talk show
The following news is certainly worth chanting “Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill” over: Bill Nye is coming back to television, and more notably, he is doing so with a talk show on Netflix.
The streaming provider announced on Wednesday that they are teaming up with the former “Bill Nye the Science Guy” host for “Bill Nye Saves the World,” a program coming next year that will feature Nye taking on a variety of science-related topics. He will also take on anti-scientific claims that are made by people in high-ranking positions, and analyze their merit or validity.
In a statement about the show, Nye had the following to say:
“Since the start of the Science Guy show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”
To say we love the idea is an understatement. The science community has been underserved on television for several years, and this is a chance to have a show that is both appealing to them and also relative science newbies who are just trying to learn a few things. That was always one of the biggest appeals of the original “Science Guy” show: It could be universal, and loved by both newbies and science fans alike.
We imagine that we’ll have more good news on this in due time; this is the second major Netflix announcement that we’ve written about today, following the reveal that “Stranger Things” has been renewed for a second season.
