Could a ‘Squirrel Girl’ TV series from Marvel actually happen?

Marvel -Sure, we’ve heard mentions of people adapting Squirrel Girl before, but we cannot sit here with much of a straight face and say that we took many of the seriously.

However, it’s now looking as though this is a concept that may come to fruition in due time. According to a new report from TVLine, Marvel and ABC Studios are working together on a “New Warriors” half-hour comedy series that is being shopped right now to cable and streaming outlets. Squirrel Girl will be a member of said team. You can compare the New Warriors in some ways to the Teen Titans if you wish, given that they tend to be a younger group of superheroes, though still popular in their own way.

For now, our question is mostly just what would be the perfect platform for this. Netflix seems like a great spot given their relationship with Marvel, but this show seems to be going more for comedy while their roster of hero shows is a little bit more dramatic. Amazon, meanwhile, is going more for quirky fare these days.

If there was an enormous selling point to this series, it would be getting a star like Anna Kendrick involved. Speaking recently to Net-A-Porter, she said the following when asked if there was a superhero she wanted to play:

“My brother sent me a ‘Squirrel Girl’ comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

We know that many in the Marvel universe wanted to see her play the role for a movie, but could a TV series actually land her? That seems more like a tricky proposition.

Anyhow, would you be interested in watching a show about the New Warriors, especially if this character is front and center? Share below, and head over here to secure some other TV news on all we cover, sent right over to you via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Marvel.)
