‘Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X’ spotlight: Meet Adam Klein (and his amazing voice)

Before we get too far into our daily “Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X” spotlight, we’re going to go ahead and re-emphasize it: Adam Klein may have a top 5 voice in “Survivor” history. It’s up there with like a Coach, a Boston Rob, or a Tina in terms of instant memorability; he sounds like a little bit of a mixture between a sports-radio host, a game-show announcer, and Peter Brown from “Big Brother Canada.”

All of that aside, we’re very curious to see how this guy does given that he’s probably one of the biggest fans of the show this season, he’s playing for a purpose, and he should fit in rather well with the tribe he’s on.

Tribe – Vanua (Millennial Tribe)

Bio – He’s a 25-year old homeless shelter manager from San Francisco, and you really get the sense that giving back is a top priority for him given that he works a job that pays him below what he could likely make elsewhere, and at the same time he has raised a substantial amount of money through Relay for Life. Through everything that he has done for his mother battling cancer to what he continues to do now, you do get the sense that he’s a guy with a pretty big heart — and also someone who loves this game given that he’s been trying to get on it for years.

Positive attributes – He knows the show! It seems trivial to generalize it as a net positive, but so long as you don’t got completely crazy with the fandom it’s an enormous advantage since you can anticipate. You also become an asset to camera-conscious people who are afraid of looking stupid on television; they want to use you in order to figure out how to navigate the game.

Beyond that, he certainly comes across as sociable, enthusiastic, and someone who can play strategic without you immediately catching on to precisely what they are doing. While he’s probably not the most athletic guy on his tribe, he should be able to hold his own in the challenges.

Potential negatives – We’ve said this before about other players, but Adam may be seen as too nice for his own good if everyone starts to figure out about his job, his charity work, and his story as a whole. He’s a threat because people will want to give him the money in the end, and any smart player would know that this is someone you would want to take out at around final six, just in case he goes on an immunity run.

“Survivor” comparisons – Adam cites Spencer Bledsoe, and we do see a certain percentage of the Young Lad’s game skills in him. Yet, at the same time there’s also a warmness here that we think is more in line with a Todd Herzog, someone who can really charm people and make them feel like he is on their side.

Early assessment – We’re very high on Adam and his abilities based on what we’ve seen so far. He speaks frequently about his drive to win this game, and that is something that cannot be underestimated. This is someone who will stop at nothing to win, and he’s got a ton going for him: He should have a little bit of the social, strategic, and physical game, but not so much in any one aspect to overwhelm anyone else. Is he our winner pick? We’re not going to disclose that until we get to the end of our spotlight series…
