‘Dead of Summer’ episode 9 ratings: Will Freeform drama live again?
Through most of this summer, “Dead of Summer” has shown itself to be a particularly creepy entry into the Freeform lineup, and it has given viewers a chance to see something that feels at times like an homage to a genre gone by (the summer-camp slasher movie) while at the same time bringing something new and especially crazy to the table.
Now that we are getting closer to the end of the season, of course we’re starting to wonder one key question above all others: Is there still hope for it to be renewed down the line? There’s no simple answer to this question, but it is something that we’re hoping to analyze regardless.
This past episode on Tuesday drew a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which isn’t great. It marks a series low for the show, which has only averaged in total around a 0.2 over the course of the entire summer. The good news is that this is only a small portion of its overall ratings, given that you also have to remember that DVR ratings do matter to a certain extent. Meanwhile, it has performed better than another Freeform series in its first year in “Guilt.”
Unfortunately, we’re still not overly optimistic about its future just yet, unless the network is just willing to give an innovative show another shot because they want to. Maybe they will take into consideration that this has been a fairly weak summer across the board when it comes to original programming, as everything from the Olympics to the election could be viewed as competition for both viewers and conversation.
