‘The Flash’ season 3 spoilers: ‘Awkward’ star Ashley Rickards to play villainous role

FlashWhile the future of “Awkward” (unfortunately) still hangs in the balance, it’s quite a thrill to see Ashley Rickards on another show we love: “The Flash.” Not only that, but she’s getting to play a dangerous meta-human and one of the more-prominent Rogues.

Per E! News, Rickards will play Rosalind “Rosa” Dillon, otherwise known as The Top (the character was male in the comics), for the upcoming fourth episode of the season. This is one that, per executive producers Aaron and Todd Helbing, will serve as a proper introduction to the character of Mirror Master (otherwise known as our favorite Flash villain) played by Grey Damon on the series. Aaron proclaims it to be “kind of the origin of Mirror Master,” while Todd goes on to add the following:

“It’s the origin story of him, but it’s this struggle between Mirror Master and Captain Cold and you get to see who comes out on top.”

The specific role of The Top is not entirely clear from this, but in the comics the character had a remarkable spinning ability that could lead to the psychological torment of others. While Captain Cold and some of the other Rogues could challenge you physically, this character was more of a mental mastermind.

In general, there’s so much to like about this. Rickards is brilliantly funny and to see her go evil should be a blast. We know there are some out there who are against the whole notion of gender-flipping characters, but to us it works when you have a performer who you know is going to deliver on the role. That’s the case here, and she’ll stand out from all of the others.
