‘The Amazing Race Canada 4’ episode 7 preview: The U-Turn board arrives…

The Amazing Race -

We assumed that we would be getting some sort of U-Turn surfacing on “The Amazing Race Canada” sooner rather than later given where we are in the season right now, and based on the preview that aired following Tuesday’s episode, that is officially coming your way in Kingston, Ontario.

What makes this upcoming episode so fascinating, though, is seeing how so many teams remaining could be considered significant threats. Steph & Kristen are probably the biggest ones, but the good news here is that they’ve still got that Express Pass. Even if they didn’t have it they’ve been so strong that it makes sense for other teams to go after them; it appears that other teams are going to figure out they have it moving forward, and that makes it all the easier to U-Turn them. After all, a team can claim that they are just trying to level the playing field.

Of course, we’d also be worried going into this if we are a team like Jillian & Emmett, who have been so physically dominant almost throughout and have been nipping at the heels of Steph & Kristen the past couple of legs. U-Turning them makes sense, and it’d also be great for drama since you know they’d get upset over it!

For us, ideal U-Turn strategy is this: If you’re in the first half of the pack, don’t use it since you have to have confidence in your own abilities and you also don’t want to use it on a team that you could end up seeing again down the road. If you’re in the back, meanwhile, use it just to ensure that someone stays behind you and you have that margin of error. Nobody’s ever going to blame you for staying in the race. We don’t really think deliberately trying to target a strong team is necessarily the right move since it can easily backfire; we’d only do that if we knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that it would send them home.
