‘Big Brother 19’ will not alter CBS show’s summer plans; Julie Chen will return as host

Big Brother -At this point, we suppose many other there are aware of the expansion of the “Big Brother” franchise into the fall. What we do have for you today is some confirmation of a couple of things that we know readers online have been curious about.

Today, CBS confirmed that the plans for this CBS All Access version of the show will not impact a potential season 20 on broadcast TV. That is something that is still being planned. In addition, we also know that Julie Chen will continue to host, which means there is no reason to fear about a Junior Varsity host coming in because she doesn’t have the time or feels like she wants to be exclusive to the broadcast version.

In a statement talking further about season 19, CBS Interactive’s President and Chief Operating Officer Mark DeBevoise had the following to say:

Big Brother is an incredible success on the CBS Television Network and has always been ahead of its time when it comes to fan engagement … Already, the Big Brother Live Feeds are some of the most popular content on CBS All Access and with this new digital edition we will explore ways to reimagine this format for multi-platform audiences.”

The news about a “Big Brother” season this fall was first reported last week by Reality Blurred, and since that time most of the news we’ve heard has made some sense. CBS of course wants to find some additional ways to make money off of the franchise, and putting a version up online is a sure-fire way in order to ensure that people will subscribe to All Access beyond just the summer. In turn, this helps whatever else they want to promote there.

Also, the show finds another use for the house, which remains vacant most of the year.
