TV Quick Hits: ‘Shameless’ season 7, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 4 casting news; ‘American Grit’ renewed
“Shameless” season 7 scoop – We begin this edition of TV Quick Hits with a ton of casting intel about the Showtime series, which is airing two seasons within a single year for the first time ever.
Per a report from Deadline, Alicia Coppola (“National Treasure: Book of Secrets”), Arden Myrin (we know her best from “@midnight”), Pasha Lychnikoff (“Deadwood”) and relative newcomer Ruby Modine have all best cast for roles moving forward. Coppola could play effectively Ian’s boss as he works to become an EMT. Myrin is a homeless woman who gets closer to Frank, which kind of shows where his life is going at the moment. Meanwhile, Lychnikoff will play Svetlana’s father, and Modine is going to be a waitress at Patsy Pies, managed by Fiona.
As for some other news from the day…
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” gets Maya Rudolph – While we wait for the fate of NBC’s “Maya & Marty” to be revealed, TVLine reports that the former “Saturday Night Live” alum will play opposite fellow show alum Andy Samberg as a U.S. Marshals liaison who works alongside Jake and Ray (Andre Braugher) while they are in witness protection.
“American Grit” renewed – For those who liked the outdoor competition on Fox hosted by John Cena, rest assured that you’re going to be getting more of it! The network confirmed the news on Friday, which is a bit of a welcome surprise. We weren’t quite sure the ratings would be good enough, but we’re very pleased that the network is allowing a new reality franchise a little bit of a chance to grow and develop.
