‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6 spoilers: Show exec on fitting in Aladdin story
At this particular point in time, it really should not be much of a secret that we have wanted to see the story of Aladdin on “Once Upon a Time” for quite some time. We knew that he existed within this world, given that we’d already met Jafar over on “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.” The only difference is that Naveen Andrews was unable to reprise the role here, so Oded Fehr is taking it over.
As it turns out, it also seems like this is a story that the show’s own creators have also been looking to take on for quite a long time. Speaking on this subject to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Adam Horowitz made it clear that the timing made it right to touch on some of these people now as opposed to any other time:
“It’s been a long time coming. We talked about using these characters pretty much since the first season, internally. It was always about the right time and when it would fit into the storytelling the way we wanted to. With the Land of Untold Stories and with Jekyll and Hyde I think you’ll see that the Aladdin, Jasmine, Jafar story folds in neatly.”
Fellow executive producer Edward Kitsis also noted that (thankfully) there has been no real resistance from Disney when it comes to using any of the properties, and they have been more than fine when it comes to allowing them to play around in this world. Hopefully, this means that we’ll get a few elements of the classic Aladdin story in here, but also some new elements that are unique to this show.
