‘Ballers’ renewed for season 3 by HBO
Fans of Dwayne Johnson everywhere, celebrate! The actor’s HBO series “Ballers” has scored a season 3 renewal, and it has remarkably done that just two episodes into its second go-around on the air.
In a statement Thursday, HBO confirmed that they are bringing the series back for another batch of episodes, with programming head Casey Bloys saying the following in a statement:
“Dwayne Johnson, Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and the rest of the BALLERS team have once again delivered a winner for our viewers. We look forward to another great season of BALLERS next year.”
We are not necessarily going to consider “Ballers” to be a ratings monster by any means for HBO, but at the same time, it is easy to figure out precisely why they would want it back. It’s a male-skewing comedy that they tend to crave, and it also has one of the biggest stars on the network. Johnson’s career has accelerated to another level even since first booking the show, and this is a great gig for him given that he can work on it for a few months in the year before jumping around to movies and other projects.
Somewhere along the way, we hope to see “Ballers” pushed to its limits as a series. While it is certainly a perfectly-watchable comedy, we do want to see Johnson’s character of Spencer Strasmore tested even more than he has been so far. He’s been able to navigate his problems fairly easily, so what happens in the event he really hits rock bottom? That’s what we are curious to figure out.
