Netflix makes ‘Making a Murderer’ season 2 official
Less than a week after it scored a horde of Emmy nominations, Netflix has decided to bring more “Making a Murderer” into the world with Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos at the helm.
When we first envisioned the idea for a second season of the show, we admittedly thought that it was going to be covering a separate case altogether from one Steven Avery was involved with. However, that is not the case. The second season, which is already being made, will continue the saga of Avery and co-defendant Brendan Dassey as attorneys battle the state to have their convictions overturned.
In a statement, Ricciardi and Demos had the following to say about an opportunity to come back and continue making new episodes:
“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold.”
One of the things we will continue to be curious about moving forward is if there is any potential impact that this show could have on the long-term result of the case. Obviously its impact has been tremendous so far, but can that continue?
From a commercial standpoint, bringing “Making a Murderer” back was almost a no-brainer just when you think about the reports that this was one of Netflix’s biggest hits of the past year. There is no confirmed information out there in regards to total viewers, but that’s mostly just because the streaming service doesn’t like to release that sort of info in advance.
