Emmys 2016: George R.R. Martin thrilled for ‘Game of Thrones,’ sad over ‘Outlander’ snub

LogoGeorge R.R. Martin may be responsible for one of the best TV shows in recent memory coming into existence, but when it comes to discussing the primetime Emmy Awards, he may be just like the rest of us.

Martin commented on some of the mass nominations for “Game of Thrones” in a recent entry on his Livejournal page, especially when it comes to Kit Harington and Maisie Williams finally getting some love after so many years of hard work:

“I am thrilled and happy for all our nominees, of course… but it made me especially happy to see Kit and Maisie get some love from the Academy at last. About damn time, I say. They are several years overdue. (And I would have loved to see Sophie Turner on that list as well. I know, I know, I’m greedy).”

We also would have loved to see Turner on the list, being that personally we had her ranked higher than any other actor from this past season in terms of overall performance.

Martin did not keep his opinions limited to “Game of Thrones,” as he also responded to a reader by expressing disappointment over the snub of “Outlander,” another show based off of a book series (in this case Diana Gabaldon’s):

“I agree. OUTLANDER was robbed. All three leads were amazing… especially Tobias Menzies in his double role as Frank and Black Jack. Eva Green also deserved a nomination for her work in PENNY DREADFUL. Of course, every year has omissions. And right now it is harder than it has ever been. So many great great shows to watch.”

Maybe there is some strange irony here in that Peter Dinklage and Harington getting nominated likely made it harder for Menzies to, but we do think that there could have been room for all three of them on there.
