‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7, episode 6 review: A spooky story and a fun cameo

For those of you out there who like things a little bit different on “Rizzoli & Isles,” we have a feeling that you enjoyed the creepy tone of tonight’s “There Be Ghosts.” Personally, we like that the episode’s title sounds eerily very much like something that a pirate would say.

Probably the big disappointment in this episode is the super-short rise and fall of the James Miller character, who was basically just here for a blink of an eye. Of course, it was not a ghost responsible for murder in this episode, but a real human being. Jane was of course protective of Maura and everyone close to her, but how many times are we going to see her up the kill count over the course of this season? Our concern is that as we get closer to the finale, you’re starting to turn her into more and more of the Terminator.

The remainder of the mystery to get to this point was still fun, and we’ve really become a fan of all of the Frankie / Nina stuff even more than we thought we would going into this season … even though it felt like the two of them linking up was inevitable.

On a really positive note, it was a super-cool move tonight to have Tess Gerritsen, the author and original creator of these characters, appear as a mystery writer. In this final season, we do always think tributes are fun.

Was this episode a little spookier than most for the show? Sure, and maybe there are some fans out there who don’t like dealing with the supernatural that much on this show. Personally, we quite enjoyed the little foray, mostly because the show didn’t go “full ghost” and make itself unbelievable. Grade: B-.
