‘Saturday Night Live’ re-watch: Celebrating ‘Whispers R We’ with Melissa McCarthy

This weekend “Saturday Night Live” is airing a repeat in the recent Melissa McCarthy show, and while we do love the “Ghostbusters” star, we’ve gotta be honest: This is probably our least favorite hosting gig out of any that she has done. While there are some okay sketches in here, some of them seem completely out of touch with the present now. For example, see Beck Bennett as Jeb Bush playing a role in anything.

The reason we are reviving Whiskers R We this weekend for a discussion is simply because it feels like time we all had a little bit of fun. This is incredibly silly, but at the same time very much worth watching just for the chemistry between McCarthy and Kate McKinnon.

Also, let’s be honest here: there are very few sketches this late in the show that are legitimately good. To have one that gets a few chuckles almost every time it airs is almost a miracle in itself. Also, this one has cute cats, and we do really think this should be good for something. Maybe this is proof that cat videos are actually better than regular videos?

We’re not often for sketches being done to death, given that another late-night sketch about certain adult stars selling products really lost a little bit of its charm the past couple of times it has been done. Yet, we’re fine with getting Whiskers R We maybe another two times in season 42 with the right host involved. With the cats, there’s always a little unpredictability.
