‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’ in hot water over SCOTUS abortion case tweet

Daily Show -Tonight’s episode of “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” has not even aired, and there is already a good deal of controversy out there about the show … mostly thanks to its own Twitter account.

Earlier today, the show chose to try and tell a joke about the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning abortion in Texas, telling its followers to “go knock someone up in Texas” since they will be able to get an abortion afterwards. As you would imagine, that did not go over well, and even liberal fans of the show decried the tweet moments after it was posted.

Soon after that, the show posted what is more of a clarification than an apology, saying “friends, we’re certainly not promoting abortions. Just excited about reaffirming right to choose.” That also did not go over that well. Do we think that there is a further apology coming? Maybe, but ultimately jokes do fall under free speech … even ones that are being done in poor taste. If this was a joke from a comedian this would probably be the end of it; however, this show is a part of a massive corporation.

What’s interesting about this is that this is not the first time a Twitter account for a Comedy Central show has been in hot water. Before Stephen Colbert left “The Colbert Report,” there was a controversy regarding a tweet that was placed on the official account that was deemed offensive to the Asian community. Colbert, who did not actually run the account and was not responsible for its content, tried to distance himself from the comment and eventually asked for control over the account.
