‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 13 (finale) preview: Airdate for ‘Dragonfly in Amber’

It was earlier this year that “Outlander” fans first heard the phrase “Dragonfly in Amber” stated on the show, and it is of great importance for those familiar with the Diana Gabaldon book series. What is interesting is that both this show and “Game of Thrones” have chosen to end their seasons with episodes named after books; this is the second in Diana’s series, whereas “The Winds of Winter” is the name of George R.R. Martin’s upcoming book.

We wish we could tell you much more about the “Outlander” finale, but for now Starz is keeping things somewhat secretive. Due to the July 4th holiday being such a ratings vacuum, the network obviously does not want to run up against that, even if this is a show that does have the advantage of strong DVR ratings and streaming options. Due to the delay, you’re going to be waiting until July 9 to see precisely what happens next.

What we do know is this: This episode will run for 90 minutes, and will also feature the first appearance of Richard Rankin as Roger to go along with Sophie Skelton as Brianna. These two characters are essential to the future of the series, so do not be particularly surprised if you see them play a major role over the course of the future of the seasons to come. We know we are getting at least two more seasons after this one, based on the renewals that have already been announced.

Also, Starz released this official description a while back; it may not be new news, but there’s a chance some of you haven’t seen it yet:

“Flashing forward to 1968, Claire travels to Scotland with her twenty-year-old daughter, Brianna, and meets Roger Wakefield. Claire visits Lallybroch and Culloden Moor to make peace with the past, while Brianna and Roger bond over researching Randall family history. Claire finally reveals the truth to Brianna about her time travel through the stones, her life in 1700’s Scotland, and Brianna’s true parentage. The story is intercut with another one back in the 18th century, which happens on the day of the Battle of Culloden. When Jamie’s last ditch attempts to deter The Prince fail, he and Claire come up with a dangerous plan – which Dougal overhears, inciting him to a murderous rage. Jamie must do everything he can to save the ones he loves, even if it means saying goodbye to some—or all—of them.”

On July 2, Starz is re-airing episodes starting at noon Eastern all of season 2; if you’re behind at all, that’s a great chance to catch up.
