‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 8: Shane Brennan departs as showrunner

When the eighth season of “NCIS: Los Angeles” ends up premiering on CBS this fall, it is going to be doing so with a slightly different person at the top.

According to a report from Deadline, showrunner Shane Brennan, who has been with the show from the very beginning, is stepping down to pursue some other opportunities. One of these such projects (courtesy of a deal he has with CBS TV Studios) could be an adaptation of “The Expendables” for TV.

As for just who is going to be replacing him, it is someone very familiar to the franchise already in R. Scott Gemmill. He is someone who has been with the show from the very beginning as well, and therefore it really should not be too complicated a transition. He knows the story, the characters, and what viewers like better than almost anyone. Therefore, this is not one of those awkward TV transitions where we’re handing the baton over to a new voice who is coming in to the show looking to put his own stamp that dramatically changes the show.

Hopefully, we’re going to have some other news in the near future on the upcoming season, which we hope will contain some exciting new cases for Sam and Callen, and hopefully also something romantic for Deeks and Kensi as the two of them continue to look more towards their own future. The new season will begin filming later this summer; at that point, we’ll have some other updates to share!
