Ratings: ‘The Bachelorette’ premiere beats ‘The Voice,’ ‘Dancing with the Stars’

We knew that “The Voice” was no longer the ratings machine that it once was on primetime television; however, at the same exact time we also certainly did not expect the latest ratings to indicate to us that it was about to fall below a summer reality show punctuated by roses and plenty of desperate people looking for love (plus a few genuine ones, as well.)

The premiere of “The Bachelorette” (2.1 in the 18-49 demographic) managed to topple both the final performance show for “The Voice” (2.0) and “Dancing with the Stars” (1.9), which shows above all else the shocking strength of Bachelor Nation. Meanwhile, at the same exact time it shows that other shows have just fallen hard over the years. “The Bachelorette” was relatively steady versus last year’s premiere, so this total does not really have anything to do with it being on the rise or something like that.

Will it keep this rating for the entirety of the season? Probably not, but it should remain close to it. While this show is never as highly-rated as “The Bachelor,” it does fare well and is a huge moneymaking operation for ABC, especially when you consider how cheap it is to get contestants and even hiring the star is by comparison affordable to paying an actor on a scripted show.

Elsewhere, the “Blindspot” (1.3) and “Gotham” (1.3) finales did not see any sort of significant change versus the episodes that aired the week prior; also, “The Odd Couple” (1.0) completely fell apart after “The Price Is Right” (1.3), which makes us wonder if CBS renewed it too prematurely or if they knew it was going to disappoint given the competition and the lack of promotion.
