‘Agent Carter’ canceled (no season 3); ‘The Family’ also ending
Bad news for a pair of ABC dramas; it looks as though they are officially now meeting their end.
Let’s start here with Marvel’s “Agent Carter.” Despite a rather ambitious premise and a great performance from Hayley Atwell, the series has not done enough to earn a third season. With a new programming head over at ABC, she is clearly looking to clear up some lower-rated shows from the schedule. First, we heard “Nashville” was ending, and now also this.
Will there potentially be more from Hayley Atwell as Peggy someday? Given that this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, anything is possible; personally, we would have loved to see this become a Netflix series since the quality is already there. Yet, we’re not sure that the low live ratings for the second season justify it; in some ways, it’s a surprise that “Agents of SHIELD” was brought back given its own weak performance as of late.
In other news, “The Family” has also been formally canceled. While we weren’t necessarily convinced that this was a slam-dunk cancellation, most signs were pointing to it thanks poor ratings pretty much from the onset.
Today is turning out to be a busy one when it comes to renewals and cancellations across the board, with ABC still having some other decisions still to come. The granddaddy of them all is “Castle,” which has been the subject of some heated anger by fans upset over Stana Katic and Tamala Jones’ dismissal. Yet, many of these cancellations to us signal that ABC may be bringing it back for what could be a shortened final season.
