‘NCIS’ season 13 finale spoilers: Michael Weatherly on Ziva’s role, moving forward
You may have many opinions on “NCIS” this season, but you have to give the show and CBS some credit for one thing: They are promoting the heck out of Michael Weatherly’s final episode of the show next week. They’ve released special trailers, more sneak peeks than usual, and on Thursday, the actor even did a conference call with reporters to try to set everything up.
We know that there are many people out there intrigued about the big Ziva-related cliffhanger on this past episode, and while Weatherly would not comment on specifics (why would he?), he did say (per Deadline) the following as he did his part to set it up:
“I think the audience will feel very strongly that she’s in the episode in a way that might be a little Shakespearean but it’s real, and I think it’s going to be a very exciting time for fans of that relationship. I mean, bring a box of whatever you need, bring a change of clothing. You might not be able to go to work the next day.”
Michael says that he wants to enjoy some downtime with his friends and family, but at the same time, he commented that he is in some ways busier than ever before … just in different ways. We’ll find out in a few days what the final word is on “Bull,” his CBS pilot executive produced by Dr. Phil McGraw that he has already filmed. While there is plenty of positive buzz out there about the show, there is no confirmation it is coming back.

Tony was way too upbeat in the finale previews to be dealing with Ziva’s very recent death. WE all saw his “Ziva is Dead” persona in Truth or Consequences. He was a zombie, and broken about thinking she was gone. He said then he cant live without her, and the last 3 seasons have shown how lost Tony is without his best friend, Ninja. He tried to make a life without her and it was not pretty. Tony was a Pod Stepford version of the old Tony. He was a weird Uncle Tony person., talking about colonics, cats and casseroles. For Ziva, he’s a Hero, an Alpha agent, a tease, a best buddy, rock and silent sentry if need be (Shabbat Shalom), The face he was wearing in the finale clips were more like The Old DiNozzo is BACK, Baby! and off to A New Adventure! I do think his ninja, his need for a family and a homelife are the reasons. Ziva is not dead.

Tony saw Ziva’s ‘ghost’/vision in PPF too.She was well and alive then.I really doubt they will kill her.It is the show way to keep everyone stay tuned.
I remember the way Tony came to NCIS.His first appearance in Yankee White.First scene: Tony was booking a ticket.Second: he is on the plane.Taking into account that we saw Tony caring packed bag in promotional photos probably that is the way he will go: a plane. Preferably to Israel, to very well Ziva. :)

Season 8 episode 22, Baltimore shows how Tony came to join up with NCIS. It started in present time with Tony’s ex partner being murdered. Then they flash back to how Tony and Gibbs met up in Baltimore years ago. They first crossed paths when Tony and his partner caught Gibbs when Gibbs was working undercover. Gibbs let himself get caught to establish his “bona fides” as a criminal in Baltimore. Later Tony’s partner left Baltimore PD as a dirty cop. The main case in this episode was about the murder of Tony’s partner in present time. It turned out that their police captain was the murderer and an even dirtier cop..The last scene was in the past again. Tony tells Gibbs that he can’t return to Baltimore because of what happened with his partner. Gibbs just points at the HR door and Tony laughs. I know that it’s hard to follow, you really need to watch the episode.

Also, the first time you see DiNozzo is in JAG season 8 episodes 20 Ice Queen and 21 Meltdown. Those were the beginning of the show. When it started. There was no Kate, McGee or Ziva–only Gibbs, Ducky, DiNozzo and Abby. There was another actress but she didn’t make the cut to the series.

Shakespearean….The first thing that comes to mind is ghosts. Shakespeare used ghosts in many of his plays. Now, I was expecting to see some ghosts on this episode, especially of people that Tony was close to–Jennie, Paula Cassidy etc. But this is in regard to Ziva. Will the ghosts tell him to seek her out? The thing that I’m afraid is that Ziva will be the ghost. There are a lot of scenes where Ziva encouraged Tony. Maybe she will be the ghost in flashbacks. Michael likes to put puzzles out there. I’m still thinking about Tony “leaving the way he came to NCIS.” He came to NCIS when his former partner at the Baltimore PD turned out to be a dirty cop. Tony told Gibbs that he couldn’t return to Baltimore after all of what happened and then Gibbs pointed him toward the NCIS Human Resources office. Will Gibbs point him to the door now?

Well I’m disappointed although hardly surprised that rather than give us a hero Tony arc, we’re getting a one and done featuring a character who has been gone for three years who actually treated Tony like someone she considered disgusting and beneath her. Gary Glasberg never had a clue about a character as complex as DiNozzo and so he had him written as a loser buffoon infatuated with a self absorbed conceited psychopath. I guess now he can just focus on writing his Gary Stu character – Gibbs as the most tragic, most admired, hero to all.

I agree with you about Glasberg. I found the ET video, you mentioned, where Michael Weatherly said that the fans knew that Tony DiNozzo died five years ago. He was joking and laughing at the time but I think that sometimes Michael is saying very serious things when he is joking. That interview was January 6, 2016.
Five years ago puts it in season 8. Although Shane Brennan was the showrunner of record, Gary Glasberg wrote the first and last episodes and his name appeared as Executive Producer through out the season in the opening credits. That is something that is usually done by the showrunner on this show and others. Meanwhile Shane Brennana’s name no longer appears in the opening credits as Executive Producer. His name appears as Executive Producer now in the closing credits right before Bellisario.
Brennan was up to his neck in NCIS-LA season 2. I think that Glasberg was the head writer at this point (doing what Brennan should be doing, acting as showrunner) and would become the showrunner in season 9. Glasberg has written the first and last episode for every season since season 8. I believe that after CdP left, Glasberg did not know what to do with Tony or maybe was punishing MW for that other incident I mentioned.
I agree with you about Tony. He is/was a very complex character. I didn’t like the character until they revealed his backstory. Mother died when he was 8. Dad all but abandoned him to boarding schools and summer camps. His father never kept in touch with him. He didn’t even tell Tony when he got divorced from a wife and now Tony had a new step mother. I could then understand why sometimes he was such a jerk. With a messed up father like that I could understand how sometimes Tony acted a bit immature
However, I don’t agree with you about Ziva. She also had a backstory. Her mother was also dead and her father had left the family for a younger woman. Her sister died in a terrorist attack. She knew that her father loved Israel more than her. Tony and Ziva were both two messed up puppies and they both had a hard time trusting people and forming relationships. Their fathers were the only family that they had and both were lousy fathers.
