‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 3 preview: The journey continues for Maisie Williams’ Arya
“Game of Thrones” season 6 is back with another new episode tonight, and for the sake of this photo preview, we’re bringing to you a discussion of all things Arya Stark.
If there is a story at this point in need of some significant movement forward, it’s this one. Maisie Williams’ character has been in Braavos now for roughly a full year training to become No One at the House of Black and White. Have there been stumbling blocks along the way? Definitely, as her blindness is proof of that; but it also feels very much like now is the time for her to either achieve something greater, or be put along the way now where she starts to meet another character or two important to the story.
Now that we know that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been sitting on 13 potential episodes of the show beyond this season, it’s not like there is that much time remaining for the show. We’re about two-thirds of the way through the run at this point. If you don’t start moving characters closer to each other, the ending will feel super-compressed. One such way for Arya to move on is that she becomes No One, and then gets sent out on a mission somewhere to further test her skills and abilities. Another possibility is that she simply finds a way to find herself apart from the House, and restarts her own quest for revenge.
One way or another, Arya’s far too awesome of a character to be in this sort of stasis forever.
