NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Alisan Porter, Adam Wakefield, Hannah Huston perform in top 10 show
Fans of “The Voice,” the top ten performance show is upon us! This is the time where favorites should really rise to the surface, and one of the exciting things about this season to us is that there’s really not one prevailing favorite who is head and shoulders above the rest.
As always, we’re going to be providing some more quick-takes on some of these performances over the course of the night. Be sure to refresh this page early and often for some more insight!
Daniel Passino, “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith – Why choose this song, Daniel? Why? It was cheese atop of cheese and them with a cheese drivel. His voice was okay, but this just wasn’t believable at all.
Shalyah Fearing, “My Kind of Love” by Emile Sande – Can Shalyah emerge from the middle of the pack this week? At the moment, our feeling is that the only reason she’s still in the middle of the pack is that she’s still trying to figure some things out, and while she’s strong, she could have been stronger had she waited a year or two before performing.
Nick Hagelin, “I Can’t Help It” by Michael Jackson – Nick has now done everything from Blake Shelton to the King of Pop. We were hard on Nick for the song choice, but it turned out that he actually found a way to make it work. His falsetto isn’t perfect, but he did have his own stamp on this.
Hannah Huston, “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele – For Hannah, the goal tonight is to bring new life to this song. There was some real insanity going on with the other judges not wanting to stand for what felt, at least to us, like a heck of a killer performance, There was so much to like here start to finish, and we liked the vocal slide!
Laith Al-Saadi, “The Thrill Is Gone” by B.B. King – Laith needs to continue to find a way to thrill. Is this it? Probably so to many of his devoted fans. The big thing that he does have to worry about is whether or not people outside of his core group are supporting him … but for the time being, he’s certainly fine with them at his side.
Paxton Ingram, “It’s All Coming Back to Me” by Meatloaf – We actually do like this song, but we were were about it for Paxton going in. He tried hard, but this vocal is so big and theatrical that it probably swallowed him up too much at times.
Mary Sarah, “Stand By Your Man” by Tammy Wynette – Should Mary stand by this performance? She should, since it was for the most part really strong and right down her lane. We feel like her fans will eat this up.
Bryan Bautista, “Promise” by Romeo Santos – Did this work quite like we hoped it would for him? Definitely. Bryan’s best vocal in the live rounds. He was firmly in his element, using his soul and his style to deliver a super-smooth, charming vocal.
Alisan Porter, “Let Him Fly” by Patty Griffin – Does Alisan have an ace-in-the-hole here on iTunes? We think so, given the genre and the content. Last week was Alisan’s worst outing of the season, and we’re glad that she went with something more restrained and personal.
Adam Wakefield, “I Got a Woman” by Ray Charles – How was Adam tackling this soulful song? Very strong, and a suitable way to close the show. It was smooth, and it showed off all of the wonderful flavor in the guy’s voice.
