‘Girls’ season 6: Premiere date speculation, more for HBO show’s conclusion

Tonight on HBO, the network is dishing out some finales as it makes way for the sixth season of “Game of Thrones,” and this does include saying farewell to a series in “Girls” that has had an up-and-down run over the course of its five seasons on the air. Many people loved season 1, while we personally believe season 2 to be the series’ best when it comes to experimentation and story content. However, season 3 and season 4 caused the show to lose a little bit of momentum, as what was meant to be a comedy ended up becoming rather depressing instead.

However, season 5 has been thought of by many as a relative revolution, and a vast improvement on some recent seasons. Marnie has received arguably her best material ever, and there’s been something compelling about watching Jessa and Adam.

Following tonight’s two-episode finale, anticipate yet another long hiatus. “Girls” has been renewed already for a sixth season, with the caveat being that this will be the show’s last. Apparently, this has been a plan for creator Lena Dunham for quite some time, and we do think the timing is right. If this show is meant to be a reflection of a certain period of time in a woman’s life, then that time could be coming to an end. You want to see this period of young adulthood end at some point, and creatively you want to say goodbye to your show before it starts to get extremely long in the tooth.

We figure that eventually, HBO will announce the premiere date for the final season, but it feels likely that it will be in 2017 and air alongside “Vinyl” once more. Why change things up when much of the network schedule is stable?
