TV Quick Hits: ‘Tyrant’ season 3 scores ‘The Americans’ alum; ‘MADtv’ returning; ‘Iron Fist’ casting
For all of those out there bummed about what happened on “The Americans” this past week, we’ve got some good news for you. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)
Following the death of Nina on the FX drama, Annet Mahendru has been cast in the upcoming third season of “Tyrant” in the role of Nafisa Al-Qadi. She is the wife of Sheik Al-Qadi, and will be involved in a number of political discussions. It’s nice to see that Annet is staying within the FX fold, and if this role doesn’t turn out to be permanent, hopefully she’ll find another home at some point in the near future.
Want some other news from the day?
“MADtv” returning – If you missed the legendary sketch show, note that The CW has officially picked up an eight-episode revival. This will feature all-new cast members, though some returning alumni will come back to host. The original version aired on Fox, but CW Seed is now starting to stream some select episodes from the original run.
We were never a regular “MADtv” viewer personally, but we like having it around; if nothing else, it’s good for “SNL” to have a little bit of competition and be put on its toes from time to time.
“Iron Fist” casting – The latest series from Marvel on Netflix is currently at work making the magic happen, and we’ve got some more scoop on another important character. “Lord of the Rings” actor David Wenham has been cast as David Meachum, a man who was a one-time business partner of the parents of Danny Rand (Finn Jones). In the comics, Meachum turns out to be an opponent of Rand, so we presume the same sort of thing will be happening here.
