TV Madness: ‘Outlander’ takes on ‘Longmire’ in battle for the ages
Today, we’ve reached day 4 in our TV Madness show tournament, and what we have now is a battle for the ages like no other. We have two shows are certainly rather popular here at CarterMatt, with each one of them having their respective following. Just like any actual basketball tournament that you’ll be seeing in the month of March, though, there is one clear favorite and one that will have to hope for a Cinderella story.
If this is the first article in this series you’re reading, we’re basically doing a poll series throughout the month of March to have some fun reader interaction, while also sharing some scoop and teasers along the way. The photo above (click to expand) shows when certain rounds are ending / beginning. For those wondering, the end times will all be at 12:00 p.m. Pacific.
Still with us? Then let’s get into the battle between “Outlander” (#2 seed) and “Longmire” (#7 seed).
“Outlander” – We tried to base seeding both on a combination of show ratings and fandom presence online, and when it comes to the latter, the Starz series definitely rises to the top. Its fans are among the most passionate out there, and they’ve taken what is at times underdog status with stride. The funny thing is that with some Golden Globe nominations under their belt, we’re not even sure they are underdogs anymore. Everyone is now more aware of its excellence.
The second season will premiere on April 9, and what you can expect almost immediately is a sea of change that comes from Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in France. Their love story will continue, but some unexpected obstacles will try to get in the way.
“Longmire” – The Netflix drama has been an underdog story from the moment that A&E canceled it and Netflix revived it, and since that time it’s continued to be one of the underrated, under-the-radar shows out there anchored by excellent performances from Robert Taylor, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Katee Sackhoff. We’ve loved almost every minute of it as of late, especially with the fourth season.
As for what is coming in season 5, it’s still unclear given that the show is still many months away from premiering. We’d imagine, though, that the writers will not waste much time dealing with the huge Walt Longmire cliffhanger, and who is responsible for the attack upon him at his home.
