Is ‘Chicago Med’ episode 12 new tonight on NBC? What lies ahead

Through the fall and winter, NBC has given you some opportunities to get hooked on “Chicago Med.” Now, they are prepared to give the show a break for a little while.

There is no new episode of the series coming to NBC on Tuesday night. As a matter of fact, there is no new episode airing next, or the week after, or the week after. You’re going to be waiting all the way until March 29 to see the drama return alongside its sister show “Chicago Fire.”

So why the long wait, especially given that we are only eleven episodes into the show’s run? The first thing to remember here is that there was some instability in the early days when it comes to how this show would air. It was originally going to premiere at midseason following the start of “Heartbeat,” but that was changed around when Melissa George’s pregnancy delayed the start of that series until this spring. “Chicago Med” had to do a few tweaks on the fly to meet its earlier-than-expected start date, and that included getting the right people behind the scenes. There are only 18 episodes this season as a result of all of this, but the good news is that beginning March 29, you’ll be getting new episodes every week until the end.

One other bit of good news? When the show returns, it’ll be doing so as a part of a lineup that also includes “The Voice.” That lead-in should help alleviate some recent ratings woes for the show (which has already been renewed for a second season).
