‘Agent Carter’ season 3: Talking renewal odds, hope for Hayley Atwell series
For everyone out there who enjoys Marvel’s “Agent Carter,” tonight’s finale is going to be a huge one. Peggy is going to face off with Whitney Frost, and maybe at the tail end of this we’ll get a sense of what the remainder of her life and work could look like.
The bad news is that, at the moment, we wouldn’t be too shocked if this season finale ends up also being a series finale. Remember here that this is a show that has generated some much-lower ratings in its second season, and while fans may love it and it generates decent DVR ratings, those things only go so far. There are a few different reasons at the moment to be concerned for its future:
1. ABC is now looking at “Marvel’s Most Wanted,” a different spin-off to “Agents of SHIELD” that will feature Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood. Maybe it’s not technically an either/or situation, but we really have a hard time seeing the network wanting to keep three shows on the air.
2. Series star Hayley Atwell has a potential new series coming on ABC in “Conviction.” While it is possible in theory that she could do both shows if the episode orders are short enough, that’s a lot of work. Plus, if this was a smash hit would there be as big of a need to go out and secure another job?
3. There is a new programming head in charge at the network, and anytime that happens something that we tend to see often is housecleaning of some of the lower-rated shows. We’re also worried about “Galavant” and even to a certain extent “American Crime.” All three of these shows are great, but none of them are able to consistently average a 1.0 rating in the demo.
