‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: BD Wong on Hugo Strange’s methods
The second season of “Gotham” will begin again with new episodes on Monday, and as a result of that, the show is going to bring in some new characters to get your attention right away.
Sure, we’re thoroughly psyched to see what the show’s interpretation of Victor Fries is going to be, but we’re equally excited about Hugo Strange. While many diehard comic fans or people who have played some of the recent video games are probably more than a little bit familiar with the character, he’s probably reasonably new to some casual fans out there. He’s a scientist bent on unlocking the secrets of the human condition … and may do some very evil things as a result when he gets put in charge of Arkham Asylum in the upcoming episodes.
Speaking about this character, what he wants, and what he could do to TV Guide, BD Wong passed along the following message:
“One of the reasons why he’s in the position that he’s in, which is that he runs the Arkham Asylum, is that he’s particularly enamored with the criminally insane person … This other thing, which is how the villains are affected by the presence of Arkham Asylum and what Hugo Strange is doing there, is kind of a game changer in many ways…Arkham Asylum is like a [Hot Wheels] super charger. The villains come in already terrible and they come out even more terrible or terrible in a completely different way.”
Hopefully, all of the answers on Strange will be unlocked a few episodes into the show’s run, if for no other reason than that he will be an extremely fun character to just watch run amok. There’s really no need to spend a ton of time on backstory.
