Grammys 2016: Did Pitbull provide electric close to the show
The 2016 Grammy Awards were by and large a pretty electric show. After all, we had a big opening from Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift winning, and … well, a lot of Taylor Swift. Sometimes, she can seem almost omnipresent on some of the shows.
Now that we’ve said all of that, we are here to talk about the closing performance of the night featuring … Pitbull? Yeah, we’re just as surprised with anyone about this, but Mr. Worldwide was accompanied by some legendary acts to give a performance of taxi for the crowd. Sure, it was fun, but after a tribute to David Bowie by Lady Gaga, Adele, and many other big moments, this was a surprising end to the show, to say the least. Also, it was a little surprising to see Robin Thicke among the people up there with Pitbull, given that it’s been a while to have a hit.
While we didn’t hate the performance by any means, it was somewhat odd … and it’s also strange to conjure up why they made this decision to book him last. Our guess is simply that they wanted to end the show on some sort of high-energy note, almost akin to a big celebration.
What comes across as interesting to us after the fact about the Grammys is almost what didn’t happen almost as much as what did. For example, Rihanna dropped out at the last second due to medical reasons, while Kendrick Lamar lost in some of the big categories despite entering the night with a ton of nominations.
