Ratings: ‘The Bachelor,’ ‘Supergirl’ improve; ‘Castle’ stays low; ‘Crazy EX-Girlfriend’ tops ‘Jane the Virgin’
Monday night was an interesting test to “Castle” fans, and we looked to have an answer to one key question: Would the promise of Castle and Beckett back together actually lure some viewers back to the show, or were they destined to just keep falling in the numbers?
Well, the news isn’t great, but we’ll get there in a minute.
The winners – For “The Bachelor,” viewers continue to hand the show a rose. For an episode that features Olivia Caridi’s elimination, it drew a 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and tied “The X-Files” for the #1 show on the night in that measure. There was never any doubt that this season was a hit; this just goes to further cement it.
Also, “Supergirl” (1.8) recovered significantly from what was a low rating last week, and it carried a little bit of momentum into “Scorpion” (2.0) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.6). In the case of the latter, it really should feel good about keeping the rating that it did so with “Castle” coming back. We like to envision that the shows share similar audiences.
The losers – Speaking of “Castle,” it drew a 1.1 that is just about even with its winter finale. This is still not great for a show vying for its ninth season, especially since its losing such a big chunk of its “Bachelor” lead-in. Sure, you can argue that the same thing happened to “Bachelor Live,” but that show costs almost nothing to make by comparison.
Also, there’s some bad news for a declining “Lucifer” (1.7, probably still good enough for a renewal if that number stays), and “Jane the Virgin” (0.3) fell behind “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (0.4) for the first time. Both may still be renewal on the strength of critical acclaim.

In Castle case it is all about the separation of Rick and Kate. Why do we have to wait until episode 16 to get that monkey off our back. You did the survey Cartermatt about the ending of the wrap on the separation, a large part of the answer is there. The fans just want it over. Another problem is when the show was going to restart, episode 9 was going to play in December, it didn’t then it was going to start Jan 4th and then Feb 1st finally they settled on Feb 8. It looks like ABC just no longer cares about one of there greatest shows, they had 77 days to working on the mistakes of the first half and didn’t. Our show runners still do not see the elephant in the room. After the separation is finally over in episode 16 we are wait to see how they are going the screw that all up. If they are trying to redo season 5 they can’t to many things changed. The best episode in season 5 was STILL it just showed the great love they had for each other. After episode 16 we only 6 left, please do not ruin them, let them go out like the couple in Blue Butterfly.
