‘Top Chef: California’ episode 7 preview: A ten ingredient task like no other
Apparently, “Top Chef” managed to get their fill of San Diego in just one week’s time. After heading down to the city for a quickfire and an elimination challenge, Thusday night brings up back to Los Angeles, where a familiar face from the franchise will be there to help present the latest quickfire.
We love this one, mostly because of how it could enable the chefs to be creative while at the same time putting a little bit of their fate in the hands of the competition. All chefs must make a dish featuring ten ingredients, but the choice is that each chef has to pick one that they feel like they could make a great dish out of. For example, imagine someone picking a really obscure protein that they are very familiar with, or someone near the end of the ingredients being chosen taking something completely out of left field that could stump the rest of the competition. Almost like this is “The Mole,” the potential for sabotage here is rather great.
At the end of this challenge the winner is getting immunity, which is more and more valuable as time goes by. While there are some chefs remaining who have been in danger here and there, all of them can cook and we’ve seen extensive proof of that. Thanks to this, we’ve got a serious anybody’s game vibe going on … at least for second place. Kwame is clearly in the driver’s seat right now until he stumbles during a challenge.
