‘Criminal Minds’ season 11 spoilers: More on Derek Morgan’s future story

Is something going to happen to Derek Morgan on “Criminal Minds” before the end of the season? It certainly now feels easy to say that the show is not being shy regarding rumors about Shemar Moore’s future on the show. While we certainly think the upcoming episode “Derek” and casting news regarding the character’s late father could just be red herrings trying to hide whatever secret plans are coming up around the bend, it’s also possible that we really could see him in peril.

For the time being showrunner Erica Messer is very much doing all she can in order to tow the line on the subject. Just take a look at what she had to say in a recent interview with TVLine:

“There is a lot going on with Derek … He’s really taking up our emotional head space for a good chunk of this midseason stretch.”

Let’s just hope that if something terrible is happening to Derek, it’s done in a way that makes sense for the character and his journey. More than anything, though, let’s hope that he sticks around. This is a show that has already gone a whole lot of cast turnover as of late in between the Jennifer Love Hewitt saga last season and not even seeing Matthew Gray Gubler for a stretch this past fall. The more the cast changes, and the harder it will be to recognize the show as it was first realized.
