‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ extended until 2021
Clearly, NBC is loving something that they are seeing with “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” On the same day that the network had its annual presentation at the TCA Winter Press Tour, it was officially revealed that the host will be sticking around on his hit show until 2021.
In a statement, network programming head Robert Greenblatt had the following to say:
“As a writer, performer and host, Seth has a rich history at NBC, and we are thrilled that he’ll be at the helm of Late Night for many more years … His knowledge of both current events and pop culture is unparalleled, and he brings that expertise to Late Night every night. The show couldn’t be in better hands.”
Meanwhile, Seth added the following:
“I can’t thank NBC enough for continuing to support our show, and this more than makes up for my disappointment in not getting cast in The Wiz.”
This move basically means that NBC has its late-night lineup firmly in place for quite some time. After all, they’ve got already Jimmy Fallon signed on for some time, and his ratings are through the roof. (At TCA earlier today, Greenblatt defended some of Fallon’s recent string of injuries and made it clear that he is not struggling with alcohol.) This one-two punch together is tops across what is an ever-expanding late-night roster.
With this sort of long-term job security, we can only hope that it is going to give both hosts a little bit more time and freedom to allow them to come up with some cool ideas.
