‘The Good Wife’ season 7 debate: What should happen if Peter wins?
With many dramas out there, expectation is something that can cause a plot to crumble. That is why “The Good Wife” is currently in an interesting place when it comes to Alicia and Peter Florrick. He is currently in the running for President, but because the series is set in Chicago and he would have to move in the event he wins the election, he would of course have to move. With her serving as the First Lady, it’s hard to imagine Alicia doing anything other than the same thing.
We feel like the assumption here is mostly that Peter won’t win, since the series wouldn’t want to take such a big jump to a new location and leave behind so many characters. With that said, what if they were considering it? Are there any benefits to going to Washington DC? That’s something we wanted to explore in this story.
The case for Peter winning – After seven years, maybe Robert and Michelle King are ready for a huge shake-up. You could have Alicia serve more as a legal adviser during her turn as First Lady, and tackle a variety of causes. While she would be inevitably in her husband’s shadow, she would also have more influence than she ever has before. We suppose that you can also come up with reasons to move at least Eli and Lucca Quinn over to DC; as for Cary and Diane, that’d be a little more different.
Also, to look at this differently, it’s possible that Alicia winning could be the move that “The Good Wife” needs in order to split up Alicia and Peter for good. Maybe she really falls for Jason Crouse and the two opt to stay in Chicago. It may be a scandal for Peter, but if she waits until after the election is over to file for divorce, maybe they can both get what they want and move forward.
The case against it – It all gets really muddy if he wins even the Vice-Presidential nod. You can shake things up without changing the setting, and the show may even manipulate the timeline so that we never get past election day in the first place. The future beyond season 7 is currently unclear, and the election in real-time will not happen until fall 2016, several weeks into season 8. That gives them flexibility.
