‘Galavant’ season 2 video: A funny take on ‘Fight Song’

While there may not be too many shows airing new episodes over the course of the holidays, rest assured that there is something great coming to ABC on Sunday, January 3: The premiere of “Galavant.” It’s going to be a glorious occasion, marked with epic battles, romance, drama … and singing. Really silly singing.

We love that for the first twenty seconds of the promo below, you may legitimately think that you are watching a trailer for some sort of medieval-set romantic comedy set to “Fight Song.” Then, there’s a really silly turn at the end to remind you precisely of what this show is. It’s a silly romp through a medieval landscape that is about so many different things, with having fun at the top of the list.

We’ve been hesitant so far to read beyond just the initial synopses for the first two episodes, but what we know the story is going to bring this season is an adventure that features Galavant and King Richard working together, Madalena settling into her role as villain (at least in the early going), and Isabella trying to determine if there is any way to free herself from her surprising prison. Along the way there will be more guest stars (Kylie Minogue, a returning Hugh Bonneville), and there will also be surprises.

The ten episodes are going to air over the course of five weeks, and this show will help bridge the gap between halves of “Once Upon a Time” this season. We really hope you’re willing to check it out and give it its proper due, even if it will be airing against many over events including football and the Golden Globes throughout its run.
